The Delights of DovedaleBY: Polina Ignition | Category: United Kingdom | Submitted: 2011-11-02 07:43:55
Amongst the many charming areas of the Peak District is the small valley of Dovedale which is situated close to the River Dove. Dovedale is surrounded by numerous hills including Thorpe Cloud and is also close by to the village of Milldale. The area of Dovedale is a popular choice of destination for many visitors who want to engage in some fishing or walking. Due to the wonderful surroundings of Dovedale it is the ideal place to go for both of these activities. Dovedale has also been used on several occasions as the location for filming television dramas and adaptations. There are a number of places to stay in Dovedale and the surrounding Peak District so it is possible to have a leisurely stay and engage in the activities you are passionate about. Two popular attractions in Dovedale are Thorpe Cloud and Bunster Hill. Both of these are hills which are located within the valley and are located opposite each other. They are favourite spots for many walkers and climbers who visit Dovedale. Climbing to the top of the hills provides visitors with some of the best views over the Peak District. Both of the hills make up part of the South Peak Estate. Thorpe Cloud is in a more isolated position than Bunster Hill but is equally as climbable for visitors. As they are maintained and well managed it means that they are in a suitable condition for walkers and any paths and walkways should be well cared for and looked after. As well as hiking and walking, fishing is one of the activities which draw people to Dovedale and the local area. Fishing is a pastime which is a favourite of many people and holidaymakers and so it is good to be able to engage in it in such pleasant and peaceful surroundings such as Dovedale and the Peak District. There are many good locations in the peaks to go fishing and the River Dove is one of them. It is always worth checking what the rules and regulations are about fishing in particular areas but it is usually very easy and straightforward to find somewhere you can relax and do some fishing. It is much nicer to be able to go fishing in a river in a quiet area with wonderful scenery rather than a busy and overcrowded reservoir somewhere in a city. Some of the hills and rocks with Dovedale were formed from coral reefs and provide interesting attractions for visitors as do some of the caves and caverns which have also formed in the area. Whatever your reason for travelling through Dovedale it is certainly worthwhile stopping in the area to take in the natural beauty of it all. Whether you want to climb hills, explore the surrounding area, go fishing or simply admire the scenery then Dovedale provides the perfect setting for all of these. Stopping in Devedale doesn't mean that you are restricted to Dovedale alone as the rest of the Peak District is easily accessible from the area.
