Places to Eat and Drink in SydneyBY: Antonio Mendes | Category: TRAVEL TIPS | Submitted: 2011-11-09 06:49:11
10 spots to take in a little refreshment in Australia's liveliest city. One of the world's favourite cities - for travelers and residents alike - Sydney is a hub of delicious food and drink, combining all manner of flavours and influences. With cheap flights to Sydney readily available from online providers such as DialAFlight, and the Aussie summer creeping up as British winter falls, this is a great time to visit this vibrant metropolis. Here's where to go if you're hungry or thirsty: 1. Doyle's An Aussie fish institution. The Watson Bay resturant has been there since 1885 and still produces some damn fine fish and chips - perfect washed down with white wine and a dose of sunshine. 2. Mamak On the edge of Sydney's oldest Chinatown (there are now several), this Malaysian restaurant is rough-and-ready but its canteen-style nibbles, soups and curries are delicious. 3. Bill's An Aussie icon - there are now three cafes throughout the city, but scrambled eggs, coffee and a paper at the Darlinghurst branch are hard to beat. 4. Bungalow 8 Super cool bar in Darling Harbour with smooth cocktails and sleek leather couches - plus great views and people-watching to boot. 5. Koko's Pizza According to more people than I care to mention, 'the best pizza I've ever had'. 6. Chocolate by the Bald Man Max Brenner A childish delight for chocolate fans - you can just grab a hot chocolate or a coffee if you like, but you'd be mad not to be tempted by a shared chocolate fondue.... 7. Spice I Am Sydney's best Thai - so popular that there are often queues out the door. BYOB, no corkage, great value and the most fragrant and well-spiced Thai outside of Thailand! 8. Café Sophia Trendy Newtown hangout with amazing breakfasts and smoothies - get here early for a lazy and long morning's grazing. 9. Single Origin Roasters In Surry Hills, a coffee lover's haven. A delicate flat white - an Aussie mainstay - or a neat sharp espresso are orders of the day. 10. Summit's Orbit Lounge Bar Exorbitantly-priced but with panoramic views of the harbour and classy cocktails, it's good for a treat.
