Money Saving Tips on Travel During RecessionBY: Jeff L | Category: TRAVEL TIPS | Submitted: 2010-07-01 17:15:21
Even though we're in a recession, you still need to get away from time to time and live it up! The good news is that you don't have to break the bank to do that. Here are some money saving tips for your next vacation. Look for Last Minute Deals with airlines and car rental providers. Often, travel companies have excess capacity that they want to sell to you at a discount, similar to how retailers may sell excess inventory at discounted prices to clear shelf space. You'll want to make your hotel reservation early on, as hotel prices generally go up as you get closer to your travel date. Airlines and car rental fares can either go up or down, depending on the season. Check out what the lower fare airlines such as JetBlue, Alaska, and Air Tran are offering. You might score a sweet deal by booking early and sometimes, at the last-minute. For car rental, try out some of the cheaper alternatives. Unlike hotels, where there is a clear difference between 2-star, 3-star, and 4-star quality, not much differentiation exists with car rental. It makes no real difference if you're renting from a higher-priced company like Hertz or a discount rental car company such as Payless Car Rental, you're pretty much getting the same car. You could probably save $20-30 a day, which can add up to over a hundred dollars in savings per trip, by doing that. Also, if you're traveling with toddlers, consider bringing your own child seats, as some rental car companies may charge extra to use theirs. Another way to save money is to park your car at an off-airport parking lot instead of at the airport parking facility. Parking at an off-airport location can help you save at least a few dollars per day. Look for coupons in your local Entertainment books. Some other travel tips to save money include packing your own food to eat at the airport and on the plane. You may also want to consider buying restaurant gift certificates from websites such as Restaurant.com before your vacation. You can save up to 80% on food expenses by doing this. Hope that these travel tips can stretch your dollar further and enjoy your next trip!
