Discovering the Beauty of Little India and China Town, SingaporeBY: Maya Ballesteros | Category: Singapore | Submitted: 2010-06-28 08:48:16
Singapore is a state-city situated on an island and it is the smallest country in the Southeastern part of Asia. This country is located at the south of Malay Island and Melanesian State, Johor, at about 137 km north from Ecuador. If you just want to form your opinion about this location, you can always choose a half-day tour, which can show you the city highlights. Usually, these highlights include Chinatown, Little India, the local stamp, Merlion, and some colonial landmarks, as Pandand region, Parliament House, Cricket Club, City Hall, and Supreme Court. If you love nature, you can visit Marina Bay and the local park, the National Orchid Garden and the Thian Hock Keng Temple. As well, you can combine your tour with a short flight over the entire location. While visiting Singapore, this country is providing some magnificent locations, as Little India and Chinatown. One of the nicest locations you ever visited, Little India, welcomes you with many pleasant things and facts that you never experienced before. Women wearing saris, local stuff delighting your eyes, great smells and crowded commercial zones, all of these are going to amaze any tourist visiting Little India, for the first time. There are many small shops selling Indian jewelries, Hindu religious objects, restaurants and henna shops, all bringing a revived oriental flavor to that area. If you go for shopping, you can find many great stocks at fair prices. When looking for a place to eat, to find the best spots is quite easy, as there are always two indices to follow: crowdedness and cleanliness. If you wish to take your meal, you should know that there are basic meal sets, including rice, curry and vegetables, or dishes that you can order to the kitchen. As well, at any of those restaurants, you can enjoy the local coffee, a strong flavor, served with sweeteners and condensed milk. Besides great meals, this place offers you the possibility to visit their vary temples, welcoming everyone entering. When visiting any holly place, you should remove your shoes and socks and wear decent clothing. Always ask before taking any pictures of those picturesque places. There, you can find children running around the place and many parents and grandparents socializing. Surrounded by uneven sidewalks, a whole area characteristic, you can also visit Mustapha Center, opened 24 hours a day, mostly selling household units and electronic goods, children cloths and toiletries products. Maybe is not a must-see location, but it is another way to learn about the life in Little India. The other wonderful location you should visit, once arrived to Singapore, is Chinatown. Much different in comparison with Little India, this location offers you lot of fun while shopping for souvenirs, traditional medicines and expensive teas, or enjoying your bowl of noodles. The locals renewed the Chinatown by tidying up sidewalks and repainting their houses, and now the hundreds of tourists are repaying their hard work. Once arrived in Chinatown, you can wonder around and check a few shops and restaurants. Here you can relax enjoying a traditional Chinese cup of tea in one of those renowned places. You can opt for any teashop, as they all serve you with very good, fresh teas. For sure, after sampling many aromas, you will find yourself buying about a dozen of tea packets. As well, you can always enjoy going into one of their wet markets, great places from where you can buy vegetables or fruits, fowl or fish, or anything else you might want for your meal. Here, besides the usual things you can find in any market, you are able to purchase local mushrooms, but also pig feet and fish heads. In addition, you can visit local temples, which are accessible to anyone. Here, they do not have any dressing code, and you can make photos, but always ask before proceeding. More, you should visit the most colorful temple existed within the area, which is situated in the center of the Chinatown. Another thing you can do, while visiting Chinatown, is to check all those interesting things they offer and be happy for spending your time in such a unique location.
