Riyadh was once a small city, but it has developed into an attractive tourist attraction, now being a wonderful metropolis. As all that area is direct related to the oil industry, the city first boom was registered in the year 1950, when, due to the profitable deals, a big area was demolished and replaced with wonderful, modern buildings. Because of this, these days, we cannot admire too many historical spots or buildings, but, in exchange, we can enjoy many other things, while spending our holidays over there. Today, Riyadh is divided into seventeen municipalities and all of them bring their contribution to provide such a rich tourist destination. The first thing you should opt for, are the desert activities. This option can help you to run away from the city, providing for you wide opened unique views. There, you can admire the typical desert sceneries, with wild camels, fine sand or the dark night sky painted with stars, or enjoying, by the campfire, the beautiful local legends. You can also try out the local delicious food, or anything else you might think of. The other thing, you should definitely try, are the restaurants and café-bars. Riyadh provides you with great places where you can try the delicious Arabic food and their exceptional coffee. You can find local, Italian or French cuisine, and all of them are there just to complete your holiday. Of course, whenever you are in a new location, you have to do some shopping. Besides really enjoying this activity, it is a mandatory thing to do, as you have to pick up some wonderful souvenirs for everyone back home. Riyadh also provides many malls and big stores, from where you can pick up something nice for yourself, as there are many options and, the nice employees are always ready to help you. If you just love sporting, this location is able to provide you with great options, as basketball is. They have very well organized compounds and, if you are interested to play but not having your own team, you should not worry, as the organizers provide this too. There are no discos or nightclubs; the only places you can enjoy spending your night and having fun are the hotels, bars and restaurants. You should know that the alcohol is totally forbidden within the area and have very strict rules about night activities and clothing. Their nightlife starts immediately after the sunset prayer and once the weather cools down, you can have a splendid walk within the area, check one of their restaurants for dinner arrangements, try their traditional water pipe or drive around. In addition, you can end your day, spending some time to a coffeehouse, where you can play cards or talk with locals. As well, you should visit Riyadh during their festivals, cinemas and many other cultural events.
