Where to Go For the Best Weather in the WorldBY: Alexander Domopopolous | Category: OTHERS | Submitted: 2011-06-29 08:14:18
Any discussion of the best weather in the world will by nature be a subjective one. Recent surveys of the world's best weather have tried to pin down what people would look for generally, but of course what might be great for me, might be awful for you. The Post Gazette interviewed a number of travel and weather professionals and were amazed by the numerous different and contradictory responses. For example Geoff Cornish who works at Penn State Meteorology was quoted as saying that many people would think Southern California has the best climate, thanks to all the sunshine and low humidity, but that he personally would be bored out there. As a meteorologist he thrives on bad or severe weather. That's a great climate fro him. Similarly the people in the mountains of Austria would argue that a crisp, cold and lightly snowing climate is the best for them, or there's the English who are well-known for their daily and in-depth conversations about the weather and their endless varieties of English rain. Yet when they end up in a climate that is year round sunny, they quickly get bored. The best weather isn't always the most consistent. However, if you had to pick an objective standard then it would probably be weather that was gentle and benign, somewhere in the mid seventies and with a slight cooling breeze. Where would you find weather like this? A quick bit of research shows that the five most commonly quoted 'perfect' weather systems are: (1) San Diego - Year round perfect weather, with their coastal climate remaining mild throughout all 4 seasons. Average summer temperatures are around the low eighties and it is never particularly humid either. Winters rarely hit below the mid fourties. (2) Costa Rica - NASA once anointed Costa Rica as having the 'healthiest climate' in the whole world, thanks to the near perfect warm but cool climate in the mountainous terrain of the country. Naturally this quote is used a great deal on Costa Rican tourism brochures. (3) The Canary Islands - This achingly beautiful archipelago boasts a consistent year round temperature of between 65 and 76 degrees and is cooled by gentle trade winds all year round. (4) Faulconbridge, Australia - Situated in the middle of the Blue Mountains, Faulconbridge boasts the meteorological Royal Flush: Sat at 1,463 feet with mild humidity, year round warm but mild temperatures and an evenly distributed amount of rainfall. Their own tourism literature claims that the World Meteorological Society called them the 'world's most equitable climate.' (5) Atlixco, Mexico - Atlixco is famous for having a climate that barely changes all year. Located at 6000ft above sea level, this is the most consistent weather spot on the planet.
