Traveling when the trees are changing colors and when everything that was green is turning yellow, red, orange, and brown can be a lot of fun. Autumn, or fall, is a nice season to travel in because of all the colors; however, it can also be very unpredictable because of the weather.

Traveling during the fall when the weather is changing every few hours could be frustrating and could prove to be a traveling problem if you are not prepared. Visitor\'s guides and travel guides will tell you places you can go during the fall but what should you do to be prepared for the road trip part of a vacation?

You need to be sure you and your family are protected for the road trip during the fall. How can you prepare? What can you do to be more protected?

Here are some fall travel tips to help you get started on your way to preparing and protecting you and your family for your fall vacation:

• Health. If you are going to be traveling where a lot of people will be close together breathing the same air and spreading germs you may want to look into getting flu and pneumonia shots. Another health precaution is to wash your hands constantly. Everyone knows you are supposed to wash your hands but it is especially important to keep your hands clean while traveling. Washing your hands often during a trip is important because you want to stay healthy for your vacation.

• Clothes. Traveling during the fall usually means drastic weather changes, this being the case it is important to pack your clothes accordingly. Be sure to bring extra shoes and socks and sweaters for those unexpected cold fronts.

• Emergency kit. Having an emergency kit in your car is an essential during all seasons but it is really important to have during the fall and the winter. You want to make sure you have emergency blankets, candles, extra clothes, and emergency food and water.

• Car weather needs. If you are going somewhere that snows earlier in the year you will need to prepare your car by doing necessary precautions like checking tire pressure, filling your antifreeze, and putting chains on your tires or in the trunk just in case.

• Head out early. During the fall it becomes dark even sooner than in the summer. If you want to travel while it is light outside you will want to head out early in the morning.
