Artists For Dubai Art Should Consider Getting an Apartment When Visiting DubaiBY: Charles Harper | Category: OTHERS | Submitted: 2010-08-20 18:25:27
I have been living in Dubai for well over ten years and I have witnessed what you may or may not have noticed in that time frame. The city is building and growing. Of course, some of the things you have been seeing in the news (like the Mall) but other things have been just as dramatic. But with that growth Dubai is putting itself on the map along with London and New York City as a place where business can be done. Because business is moving there that means that money is being transacted. The positive side effect to that is that there are artists that can find their place there. A good number of art galleries all over the world are beginning to view Dubai as a place to do undertake their craft which means that the Middle East is now an open market for artist. which heretofore had not been the case. As another venue for growth, Dubai places itself squarely in another revival of cultural and social movement. This, of course set the stage for Art Dubai. I am aware that it is the biggest art fair (contemporary) in the world and even though I am not a fan of new art, the event itself is impressive. Everybody who likes art of any kind is able to find a decent place to hang out for Art Dubai. Having said that, one that I have noticed is that not everyone is prepared for what kinds of opportunities can exist if you know the lay of the land. This of course, means that how you travel to Dubai is a big deal. When people come in for Art Dubai, they almost always go the conventional route and get a hotel room. I think that is fine, but they are normally doing something that may hinder their opportunities to do business. People are coming from the Middle East, Africa and Asia to participate and it seems like the most logical thing to do to go with a hotel. But if you have a little bit of resourcefulness, a Dubai Hotel might be your best option. The reason that I say that is because the fair has some serious players in the art world as you well may know. It is said that the transactions can total over $15 million US Dollars, which is nothing to sneeze at. When you are doing that kind of business, you want to have someplace other than a hotel (more geared toward leisure and entertainment) that has quiet areas to talk, showcase more art and transact business.
