So you've decided that you want to travel to New Zealand. That's great news, New Zealand is beautiful country with many lovely landscapes to see and explore. But before you get there, you may have some questions. Question such as when to go, how to get cheap airfare and what about renting a car? All these are good questions and things you need to know before you make your trip. This article will help you answer these questions, so you can get back to the fun part of creating your trip itinerary.

First question to cover is, what's the best time of the year to visit New Zealand? Well first consider this, New Zealand in located in the Southern Hemisphere. What that means, if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, your seasons are opposite of those in New Zealand. With that said, New Zealand has lovely weather so there really isn't a "best" time to go. Some things you may want to keep in mind, is that between mid-December and late January, the New Zealanders take their holidays. That means during the summer months, there is a lot of pressure for accommodations at beach destinations. If you choose to travel in the months of April, June, July, September or October make your reservation well in advance. Or if you plan on making accommodations at a ski resort or destination, reserve early because those places fill up quickly. Though generally, you can find lower rates between the months of April - August.

Now here are a few tips for securing cheap flight tickets for your trip to New Zealand. The cheapest days to fly internationally are Tuesday or Wednesday. And the cheapest flight on those days, is always the earliest - the first flight out. Other good times are during or after the lunch hour and flights leaving during the dinner hour. The best time to buy your tickets is Tuesday at 3 pm Eastern time. Of course you should always look at travel comparison websites when searching for affordable tickets. You can find a lot of good deals on travel websites. But also check low cost airlines as sometimes their ticket prices are not quoted on travel websites. In the U.S. there is Southwest and then in Europe there is Ryanair. Also try to stay away from the smaller airports and travel to a hub city. The reason for this, is bigger airports means more competition. Traveling to and fro via smaller airports can cost you hundreds of dollars extra.

For car reservations in New Zealand, the process is pretty simple. Simply make a reservation and pick up the vehicle once you have reached your destination. Requirements to rent a car in New Zealand are like everywhere else. You must be at least 21 years of age, with either a U.S. driver's license or an International Driving Permit. Keep in mind that in New Zealand, everyone drives to the left.
