Sailing between the North and South Islands of New Zealand is far more enjoyable than taking the flight across the Cook Straight. The journey between Wellington and Picton (W) is 92 kilometers and takes 3 hours in total. You will witness breathtakingly scenery as you travel through Wellington Harbour, across Cook Straight and into Queen Charlotte Sound, which will wind it's way into Picton and the top of the South Island.

There are two ferry operators provided for crossing the Cook Strait - the Interislander and the Bluebridge. The Interislander has three ferries that sail 11 times a day, transporting passengers, passenger and commercial vehicles as well as rail freight. The ferry offers good facilities. There is a cafeteria for you to grab a bite on the
brief journey, a bar with New Zealand's favourite beers and wines, plenty of space to stretch and relax, and also an on board cinema where you can catch the latest movies on your way to the other side at a reasonable price.

Bluebridge manages two passenger ships that sail four times a day. There is plenty of room for relaxation even on festive weekends. You can enjoy the complete budget friendly amenities of beverages, beer and wine, food, newspapers and free movies on big screen televisions while sailing on the Bluebridge ferries.

As summer and other peak period are approaching we recommend purchasing your tickets online prior to travel with our www.experiencenz.com/new-zealand-ferry.cfm simple ferry booking service at Experience New Zealand.
