The Temple For Human Beings - Great Pashupatinath Hindu Temple, NepalBY: Maya Ballesteros | Category: Nepal | Submitted: 2010-06-28 17:14:04
Nepal, a historical country, located in the Southern part of Asia, offers diverse religion and cultural sites, and an amazing geography. This country hosts the great Everest Mountain, with a fertile terrain, more populated, in its southern part. It has a great history and you are going to be amazed about everything within this location. When I am saying everything, I am talking about its population, habits, culture, religion, local dishes, sceneries; everything you are going to meet, touch or see, gives you the excitement that you never experienced before. Their best landmark, Pashupatinah Temple, is one of the most amazing and beautiful Hindu temples; its doors are wide opened to embrace, at anytime, thousands of Hindu pilgrims. It provides unique architectural images, offering a magnificent symbol of religion, faith, tradition and culture. It is an ancient establishment, with a graceful pagoda featuring manual ornaments, being a symbol of hundreds of generations. Named, as well, the "Temple of Living Beings", it features incredible pieces of art as images of deities plated with gold, the renowned four-faced statue (Chaturmukka), Brahma Temple, a stone with sacred oaths (Dharmashila), a holy bath (Gauri Ghat), shrines (Pandra Shivalaya), the Temples of Vishwarup and Gorakhnath, Surya Ghat, Guhyeshwari Temple and many. When it comes to its architecture, Pashupatinath Temple shows two levels, topped with roofs plated with gold. As well, its doors are embellished with silver, and its unique pagoda's architecture keeps it still very famous, even after more than two thousands years. As well, the western door presents a bull statue, Nandi, plated also with gold. This stunning statue ad its value to the temple charisma and this holly location is even more beautiful. The present architecture is not the original one. Queen Gangadevi renewed the original architecture that was taken as base. There are many local legends about this wonderful temple. The first one, entitled "The Cow Legend" says the story of Lord Shiva, taking the form of a wild animal and wandering within the wooded area. Later on, the gods spotted him and punished him to resume his divine existence. After a few years, it is believed, that someone found one of those holly horns. Situated in a very famous tourist area, the temple is included in any tourist tour. It is able to create a memorable experience, much different than visiting any other Buddhist locations. The temple is always crowded due to all the locals and tourists visiting. As well, during the important festival of Maha Shivaratri, the temple stays opened twenty-four hours a day. This festival brings many tourists, devotees and pilgrims. Pashupatinath is renowned for bodies' cremations. Many Hindus are taking baths in the Bagmati River's waters, as it is known that this holly place can heal the body and soul. One of the strongest Buddhist beliefs is that, the persons dying at the river definitely cross into the heaven. If you want to make photos, I have to advice you to be as discreet as possible. The busiest times are in the morning and evening, at sunset. If you are interested about the temple activity, these are the best time to observe their religious arrangements. If you are a not a Hindus person, it is better for you to watch the temple from the other side of the river, and, after, visit the temples situated within that side. If you plan to travel over there, you should know that the easiest way to reach Pashupatinath Temple is by taxi. The closest location, Pashupatinath, is at about two kilometers away, and you can just walk to the temple. It is known as the holiest Hindu place for pilgrimage, being declared a heritage site of UNESCO. As well, the entire area hosts thousands of tourists and pilgrims, mainly on special events, as Sankranti, Ekadasi, Maha Shivaratri, Rakhi, Teej Akshaya, Poornima and Grahana. Even if you are a non-Hindus person, you can still enjoy the events, learning about Hindus cultures and ancient civilizations. It is easy to do that: book a trip and get lost in the crowd of pilgrims, for a truly unique experience.
