Muscat is the largest city of Oman, being dominated by a rocky-volcanic terrain, as the Al Hajar Mountains and nearby. Muscat City is also opened to the Arabian Sea, providing sunny beaches along the Gulf of Oman. This place does not have such wonderful vegetation, but you can enjoy many other things. Here is a small guide, providing you with the necessary information: 1. Once arrived in Muscat City, the first thing you should do is to book a day tour to the enchanting Forts of Nizwa. The tour starts with the Hajar Mountains and continues along the Fanjah and Birkat Al Mauz oases and, in the end, you arrive to Nizwa. This is the most popular tourist attraction, presenting historical buildings and strong forts. Its oasis stretches for about eight kilometers. After visiting the location, the tour includes a visit to the local market and souk from you can purchase different souvenirs, as Bedouin jewelries. 2. The next thing you can do is to book a private tour to visit Muscat City. The tour takes you through the embassy quarter and continues with the Soultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of the Muscat important landmarks. It provides you with splendid local architecture. Choosing the Wadi Safari brings you closer to the nature, especially by visiting the Nakhl oasis on foot. You can take pictures of this wonderful location, and then travel towards Thowarah, another ideal place. On the way, you are able to admire all those palm trees plantations and small mountain villages. 7. Going on the northern site, you are able to visit Quriyat, a coast town, well known for its beaches. There you can find unique landscape that helps you with your traveling picture album, as it is also named the "shrink hole", featuring a collapsed part of the mountain into the waters. 8. In addition, another location presenting desert sceneries you can find after crossing the Hajar Mountains. Behind all those desolated dunes, you are going to locate the Wadi Bani Khalid, one of the most beautiful and unique arid sceneries. 9. You should try booking your visit to Muscat in the same period with their festival. It assures a nice ambiance, providing many cultural information, excitement, adventure, entertainment and fun.
