A Day Out in ParisBY: Jon Sullivan | Category: France | Submitted: 2011-01-10 06:27:49
It is easy and convenient to find cheap flights to Paris, and there is no better place in the world to spend a day. Airplanes will most likely land in one of three airports. The principle airport is the Charles de Gaulle/Roissy Airport. The second international airport is the Paris-Only Airport. Then, there is the airport for budget airlines, the Beauvais-Tille Airport. As soon as people leave the airport their day in Paris begins, and public transportation and taxis are waiting. They can take in the sights, tastes, and culture, ending the day in one of Paris' comfortable hotels. Treasured Sites While visitors cannot experience the entire city in twenty-four hours, there are several attractions to make a day in Paris perfect. Here are three of the important landmarks: The Eiffel Tower The Eiffel Tower stands over the city welcoming visitors. This landmark, completed in 1889, is reknown worldwide as a symbol of Paris. The point reaches to the height of an eighty-one storey building. It was the archway of the Exposition Universelle, which was a World's Fair style, 100-year celebration of the French Revolution. Since then, over 200,000,000 people have visited the Eiffel Tower. The Louvre This spectacular palace is home to one of the largest museums in the world. Visitors can browse through collections gathered from ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Middle East and more. The famous painting, Mona Lisa finds her home there with many other fine works of art. There are other museums located near the Louvre, as well, and the Tuileries Garden is right beside the Palace. Notre Dame de Paris The Notre Dame de Paris cathedral is another very famous landmark. Her distinctly Gothic architecture with the well-known flying buttresses, includes the lovely stained glass art. This monumental structure receives hundreds of visitors per day. Paris Cuisine Paris is also well-known as the home of fine French cooking. French gastronomy is a traditional heritage of the capitol city. Of course, many international cuisines have also established themselves in the city. Outdoor cafes offer one of the favorite pass times in Paris, sitting and sipping coffee or tea while watching the city pass by on the street. Cultural Attractions Parisians patronize the arts. Citizens and visitors alike, who love the performance arts, can visit several opera houses like the Opera Garnier and theatres like Bonino. Music festivals celebrate different genres of music. Movie theatres large and small welcome lovers of national and international films new and old. Famous Hotels After a night at the theatre and desert and drinks at a sidewalk cafe, the perfect day catches up with the now weary traveler. Grand hotels right in the historic center of town can complete the perfect day in Paris. The Hotel Ritz is a palace, one of the most luxurious hotels in the world.
