Mar De Cristal - A Crystal Clear Reason For a Holiday in Spain

By: Michael Lee - Article Submitted on: 2008-07-20

Mar de Cristal, or the Crystal Sea, has always been known for beautiful, clear water and water sports on the La Manga del Mar Menor. The warm sea is perfect for any boating excursion, and the area is often free of the crowds found elsewhere.

Mar de Cristal is a quiet village around five minutes from the town of La Manga. Despite the fact that this locale is deemed a "village," visitors can find the most modern amenities during their stay. The village offers hotels as well as apartment rentals for those seeking a lengthier stay.

With air-conditioning and swimming pools, the facilities of Mar de Cristal will suit the tastes of most travelers. Visitors will also find such technology as Internet access, flat screen televisions and Playstations, and entertainment centers are fairly common. Many facilities in Mar de Cristal offer the security of electronic safes, electronic gates and public intercoms.

The current estimate of sunshine for Mar de Cristal is 3,000 hours per year. This makes the beach front a great place for the family and sports lovers. The area has schools and ports for water activities. The typical water sports of this region are jet-skiing, sailing, canoing, swimming, diving, windsurfing, flysurfing and many more. Mar de Cristal is also filled with stores, eateries and exhibits. There are weekly marketplaces for the avid shoppers.

If you are a naturalist, you will find many gems among the Spanish coast of this region. The San Pedro del Pinatar salt lagoons are in the town of San Pedro del Pinatar. This resort town has a population of around 21,000.

San Pedro del Pinatar offers many activities outside of sports and the beach. There are a host of museums and galleries. The Museum of the Sea showcases marine and related article collections. There is also a Conservation and Research Center of the Humedales. This center offers information and education on the park and life inside the salt mines.

The Villa of San Sebastian is a beautiful piece of Spanish modernist architecture. This structure is now a restaurant and guests are welcome to enjoy the design. The Church of San Pedro was constructed as a Franciscan hermitage. The Market of Fish is a historic auction. The Palace of Casa of the Russian is another fascinating structure created by a baron.

The Calblanque Nature Reserve is a natural park along the Spanish coastline. This stretch of land is protected from development and offers the tranquility and beauty of unspoiled nature. The golden beaches and clear waters are littered with pine forests and beautiful vegetation. The sands stretch for 13 kilometers.

Calblanque has a diverse range of sites for the curious visitor. Rock formations, dunes and walking trails await your visit. There are numerous coves along the stretch, and you are free to explore these natural formations. The wildlife is rich and varied with indigenous endangered species. The endangered animals that make Calblanque their home include sea turtles and the eagle owl.

Visitors may also stumble across an old abandoned mine once used for the production of metal. These remains lie on the border of the park. Visitors are encouraged to explore with safety in mind.

Because Calblanque is a nature reserve, visitors should adhere to many standard rules that apply in a United States reserve. Primarily, remain on the trails and don't venture off. The park administration also requests that visitors don't disturb the sand dunes or step on the vegetation. Visitors are asked to avoid disturbing the wildlife of the park.

Visitors are asked to avoid picnics, bonfires and having unleashed pets. Also, parking automobiles and camping is only allowed in designated areas. Calblanque beaches are also clothing-optional, so guests should respect the privacy of one another.

The Crystal Sea and the beaches of the La Manga del Mar Menor offers many adventures and many beautiful places for the visitor. From shopping and fine cuisine to clubs and sports, there is something for everyone.
